Transportation Enhancements (TE) are transportation-related activities that are designed to strengthen the cultural, aesthetic, historic, and environmental aspects of our transportation infrastructure. Federal funding is available to government agencies to provide support for transportation and community improvement projects. |
| Eligible Activities |
At a minimum, all projects must have a relationship to the surface transportation system and fall under one of the following twelve eligible categories to be considered for TE funding:
- Pedestrian & bicycle facilities

- Historic transportation buildings
|
- Pedestrian & bicyclist safety and education
|
- Rail corridor preservation
|
- Acquisition of scenic or historic easements & sites, including battlefields
|
- Inventory, control, and removal of outdoor advertising
|
- Scenic or historic highway programs
|
- Archaeological planning and research
|
- Landscaping and scenic beautification
|
|
|

| Application Deadlines |
The 2010 Intent to Apply forms will be accepted from June 1, 2010 to July 31, 2010.
Applicants selected to complete the full application will be given 45 days from the date of their invitation letter to complete the full application.

Kentucky Department for Local Government
The Department for Local Government
provides financial help in the way of grant and loan assistance, as well as advising local governments in matters of budget, personnel, and other issues relevant to those entities. The Kentucky State Clearinghouse is located within this department.
National Transportation Enhancements Clearinghouse
This site provides information on how communities can use TE funds to revitalize the transportation experience.
Kentucky Bicycle & Pedestrian Program
The Kentucky Bicycle & Pedestrian Program is located in the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet's Division of Planning.
